Elite Ambassadors

The BMW Dallas Marathon is proud to partner with elite marathon and professional distance runners who serve as the organization’s Elite Ambassadors. Through year-round partnerships, our participants have the ability to interact with these talented American runners at different events throughout the year.

2017 Elite Ambassadors:

 

Meb KeflezighiMeb

Meb Keflezighi, 42, is the only athlete in history to win the TCS New York City Marathon, the Boston Marathon and an Olympic medal in the marathon. In 2014, he became the first American in 31 years to win the Boston Marathon, with a personal-best time of 2:08:37. Meb qualified for his fourth Olympic team in 2016, and ran for Team USA in the marathon at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He will retire in November 2017 following the New York City Marathon.

Last year, Meb was an official starter of the BMW Dallas Marathon before moving to the finish line area to congratulate and hand out medals. Meb was also seen taking numerous ‘fan photos’ with runners and spectators throughout race day as he always enjoys doing.

At the Dallas Marathon in 2015 Meb participated in the Duo to Rio Relay sponsored by AT&T and was teamed up with Elite Ambassador Becky Wade. The pair finished the full marathon course in a time of 2:20:35, good enough for a second place results. Afterwards, Meb remained at the Dallas Marathon finish line to congratulate runners and hand out medals.

During the Dallas Marathon in 2014, Meb teamed up with the Dallas Mavericks to race fellow Elite Ambassador Ryan Hall and the Texas Rangers for a unique relay challenge benefitting Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and the Mavericks and Rangers charitable foundations.

Shalane Flanagan

Shalane Flanagan, 36, is an Olympic medalist, four-time Olympian and currently holds the American 10K record with a time of 30:52. In the 2014 Boston Marathon she ran the fastest time ever by an American woman with a time of 2:22:02. She also holds a personal best of 2:21.14, which she gained at the 2014 BMW Berlin Marathon. She is also a New York Times best-selling author and public speaker on the importance of healthy eating.

Desiree “Desi” LindenDesi Headshot

Desi Linden, 33, was the first female American finisher at the 2015 Boston Marathon in a time of 2:25:39, placing fourth overall. She owns a lifetime marathon PR of 2:22:38, set at the 2011 Boston Marathon where she placed second. A member of Team USA in the marathon at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, Linden trains with the Hanson-Brooks Distance Project team based in Michigan. Linden placed 7th in the marathon at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

At the Dallas Marathon in 2015, Desi participated in the Duo to Rio Relay sponsored by AT&T and was teamed up with Elite Ambassador Jared Ward. The pair finished the full marathon course as a two-person relay in a time of 2:23:34. Both qualified for the U.S. Olympic marathon team just months later at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Los Angeles.

Deena Kastor Deena

Kastor is the overall U.S. record holder in the marathon and half marathon, posting times of 2:19:36 and 1:07:34, respectively, in 2006. In 2014, she continued her decorated competitive career, breaking U.S. Masters records in both the 10-mile and 20K distances. The 25-time U.S.champion earned a bronze medal in the marathon at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens with a time of 2:27:20. Today, she trains with and serves as president of the board of directors for Mammoth Track Club, which counts many of the nation’s top distance runners among its members.
At the 2015 Dallas Marathon, Deena participated in the Duo to Rio Relay sponsored by AT&T and was teamed up with Elite Ambassador Abdi Abdirahman. The pair finished the full marathon course in a winning time of 2:19:49, which many believe is a marathon record for a male-female marathon relay pair. Afterwards, Deena was seen at the finish line handing out medals and taking photos with finishers!

At the Dallas Marathon in 2014, Kastor paced 18-year old high school senior and just keep livin’ Foundation participant Nick Figuroa in the Dallas Half Marathon. After they finished the race, Deena spent hours at the finish line handing out medals.

Ryan HallRyan Hall

Ryan Hall posted the best-ever American time in the marathon and represented the U.S. in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic games, before retiring from professional running in 2016. Hall is married to Sara Hall, also a professional distance runner, and together they operate the nonprofit Hall Steps Foundation, which funds mentoring and running programs for at-risk youth. The couple recently adopted four young girls from Ethiopia, who have developed a love for the same sport that first brought their parents together at Stanford.

Ryan Hall announced his retirement from competitive running in January 2016, with his last run as a professional coming at the 2015 Dallas Marathon. Hall participated in the Pro Relay Challenge along with Elite Ambassadors Matt Centrowitz Jr., Leo Manzano, Robby Andrews, Boris Berian and Ryan Hill in 2015. Each Ambassador was teamed up with a DFW area sports team and competed in a marathon relay with a charitable donation up for grabs to the winning team’s foundation.

At the 2014 Dallas Marathon, Ryan teamed up with the Texas Rangers to race fellow Elite Ambassador Meb Keflezighi and the Dallas Mavericks in a unique relay challenge. The competition pitted two five-person relay teams against each other in the Behringer Relay, with a winner-take-all charitable donation on the line. After the race, he handed out medals at the finish line.

Becky Wade

Wade, 27, is a Dallas native living and training in Houston. She won her debut marathon in 2013, with a time of 2:30:41 at the California International Marathon and set a half marathon PR of 1:12:18 at Houston in 2015. Wade was a four-time NCAA Division I All-American distance runner at Rice and competed in the 2016 Olympic Trials. She recently published the book Run the World: My 3,500-Mile Journey Through Running Cultures.

At the 2015 Dallas Marathon, Becky participated in the Duo to Rio Relay sponsored by AT&T and was teamed up with Elite Ambassador Meb Keflezighi. The pair finished the full marathon relay in a time of 2:20:35, earning a second place finish.

Leo Manzano leo_manzano_2

Leo is a professional runner for HOKA ONE ONE. He was born in Guanajuato, Mexico and grew up in Marble Falls, Texas. In 2004, Leo moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas where he broke the 4-minute barrier. He graduated in 2008 after winning 5-NCAA National titles then qualified for his first Olympics in Beijing. In 2012, he qualified for his second Olympics and won a silver medal in the Men’s 1500m. It was the first medal since Jim Ryun in 1968. Leo is a 4X USA National Champion and a 7X Team USA Member.

At the 2015 Dallas Marathon, Leo participated in the Pro Relay Challenge along with fellow Elite Ambassadors Matt Centrowitz Jr., Ryan Hall, Robby Andrews, Boris Berian and Ryan Hill. We’re excited to have him return in 2016!

Stephanie Schappertschappert_headshot

Stephanie is a professional runner for HOKA ONE ONE NJNYTC. She studied business and ran cross country and track at Villanova University while graduating with a degree in Marketing and a few All-American honors. Stephanie is a 2016 Olympic Trials Qualifier and Semi-Finalist (1500m), 2015 World University Games Team USA Member (1500m -4th in final), and 4 x NCAA DI All-American. She has a personal record of 4:09.51 in the 1500m.

Kyle Merbermerber_headshot

Kyle Merber is a professional runner for HOKA ONE ONE NJNYTC since 2013. He attended Columbia University and the University of Texas, setting the American Collegiate record in the 1500m (3:35.59). In 2015, Kyle ran an incredible 1200m leg of the World Record breaking DMR at the IAAF World Relays. Kyle competed in the 2016 Olympic Trials 1500m Final and holds a personal best of 3:34.54. On top of all his accomplishments, Kyle is playing a role in popularizing the sport of Track and Field and is the meet director of the HOKA ONE ONE Long Island Mile.

Nicol Traynortraynor_headshot

Nicol is a professional runner for HOKA ONE ONE NJNYTC. She is Jersey Girl, Richmond Spider alum, and former swimmer turned runner and going on her 14th year running. Nicol competed in the 2016 Olympic Trials and placed 5th in the 3000m Steeplechase at USATF Championships in 2013. She has personal records on 9:42 in the 3000m Steeplechase and 15:35 in the 5000m.

Colby Alexanderalexander_headshot

Colby Alexander is a professional runner for HOKA ONE ONE NJNYTC. He attended the University of Oregon and was a member of the winning 2015 NCAA DMR team. He recently competed in the 2016 Olympic Trials 1500m Final and is the 1500m Track Town Summer Series champ where he set his personal best of 3:34.88.

Molly won the 2016 and 2015 NYC Half Marathons, earning a spot in Marie Claire’s “The 8 Greatest Moments for Women in Sports.” She ran the 5000-meters for Team USA at the 2012 London Olympics and is a top contender on the track for the Summer Olympics in Rio in 2016. Setting American female speed records for 5000-meters in 2014, Huddle trains in Providence, R.I.

At the 2015 Dallas Marathon, Molly participated in the Duo to Rio Relay sponsored by AT&T and was teamed up with Elite Ambassador Sam Chelanga. The pair finished the full marathon relay in a time of 2:21:35, good enough for a third place finish.

Jared Ward

Ward, 27, qualified for the U.S. Olympic marathon team for the Rio 2016 Olympics, finishing third at the trials earlier this year. He won the 2015 U.S. marathon championship in Los Angeles with a PR of 2:12:56.

At the Dallas Marathon in 2015, Jared participated in the Duo to Rio Relay sponsored by AT&T and was teamed up with Elite Ambassador Desi Linden. The pair finished the full marathon relay in a time of 2:23:34.

Abdihakem “Abdi” Abdirahman

Abdirahman, 39, is a four-time Olympian and owns a marathon PR of 2:08:56, set in 2006 at Chicago. He was a member of the 2012 Team USA marathon team, and competed in the 10,000 meters at the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics. Abdirahman lives and trains in Tucson, Arizona.

At the 2015 Dallas Marathon, Abdi participated in the Duo to Rio Relay sponsored by AT&T and was teamed up with Elite Ambassador Deena Kastor. The pair finished the full marathon course in a winning time of 2:19:49.

Luke Puskedra

Puskedra, 26, is an elite American long-distance runner. Puskedra set a personal half marathon record of 1:01:36 in Houston in 2012 and finished fifth at the 2015 Chicago Marathon with a time of 2:10:24. He recently finished fourth at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials.

At the 2015 Dallas Marathon, Luke participated in the Duo to Rio Relay sponsored by AT&T and was teamed up with Elite Ambassador Annie Bersagel. The pair finished the full marathon relay in a time of 2:22:10.

Annie Bersagel

Bersagel, 33, was the fifth fastest American woman to run a marathon in 2015, with a PR at the Dusseldorf Marathon winning time of 2:28:59. Bersagel represented the United States during the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, for the 10,000m with a fourth place finish as the top American in 35:23.31. She has won the titles of 2013 US Marathon Champion and 2006 US Half Marathon Champion. Bersagel is a lawyer who lives and trains in Oslo, Norway.

At the 2015 Dallas Marathon, Annie participated in the Duo to Rio Relay sponsored by AT&T and was teamed up with Elite Ambassador Luke Puskedra. The pair finished the full marathon relay in a time of 2:22:10.

Sam Chelanga

Sam holds the NCAA record for the 10,000 meters with a time of 27:08:49 and has a personal best in the half marathon of 1:01:04 set in 2013 at the Boston B.A.A. Half Marathon.

Sara Hall

Hall is an Elite American distance runner with a personal record in the marathon of 2:30:06 ran in London this year and a half marathon personal best of 1:10:07. She is the 2012 U.S. Cross Country Champion, a Pan American Games Gold Medalist and is married to retired Elite American marathoner and record holder, Ryan Hall. Together they established the nonprofit Hall Steps Foundation, which funds mentoring and running programs for at-risk youth.

In 2014, Sara won the women’s Dallas Half Marathon in a time of 1:12:26.

Matt Centrowitz Jr.

Centrowitz, 26, won a gold medal at the 2016 World Indoor Championships in the 1500m and has claimed a bronze medal at the 2013 World Outdoor Championships and fourth place at the 2012 Olympic Games. He is regarded as one of the world’s top 1500m runners and owns a personal best of 3:30.40. The former University of Oregon runner was the first Oregon undergrad since Steve Prefontaine to win a USATF Outdoor championship. His father, Matthew, was a two-time Olympian and an All-American distance runner at Oregon.

At the 2015 Dallas Marathon, Matt participated in the Pro Relay Challenge along with fellow Elite Ambassadors Ryan Hall, Leo Manzano, Robby Andrews, Boris Berian and Ryan Hill. Boris Berian

Boris, 23, won the gold medal in the 800m at the 2016 World Indoor Championships and is the reigning U.S. national champion in the 800m. He owns a personal best of 1:43:34, the fifth-fastest American mark of all-time. Berian was a student athlete at Adams State, before dropping out due to academic struggles. He worked at McDonalds in Colorado Springs before joining the Big Bear Track Club. He currently lives and trains in Big Bear Lake, CA.

At the 2015 Dallas Marathon, Boris participated in the Pro Relay Challenge along with fellow Elite Ambassadors Matt Centrowitz Jr., Leo Manzano, Robby Andrews, Ryan Hall and Ryan Hill. Ryan Hill

25-year-old Hill won the silver medal in the 3000m at the 2016 World Indoor Championships and is the reigning U.S. champion in the 3000m. Hill trains with the Portland-based Bowman Track Club.

Robby Andrews

Twenty-five year-old Andrews, was fourth at the 2016 World Indoor Championships in the 1500m and the 2016 USATF silver medalist in the 1500m. He was the 400th man to break four minutes for the mile with a time of 3:57:82 at the 2013 Penn Relays and while attending the University of Virginia, Andrews won the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship 800-meter race in the second fastest time every run, with a personal best of 1:44:71. Andrews lives and trains in Charlottesville, VA.

At the 2015 Dallas Marathon, Robby participated in the Pro Relay Challenge along with fellow Elite Ambassadors Matt Centrowitz Jr., Leo Manzano, Ryan Hall, Boris Berian and Ryan Hill. Gabe Proctor

Twenty-six year-old Proctor set a half marathon person best at the 2014 San Diego Half Marathon in 1:01:40. Proctor ran the 2014 Chicago Marathon, in a personal best of 2:13:45. Originally born in Ethiopia, Proctor currently lives and trains with the Mammoth Track Club in Mammoth Lakes, CA.

In 2015, Proctor won the men’s Dallas Half Marathon in a time of 1:05:09.
